6 x 6 Planning
Because no one can sprint forever!
6 x 6 planning is a tool I have been using for many years now. I first heard about this concept at a leadership conference and it just made sense! As a homeschooling mom, ministry leader, and all the various ways that I find myself involved in different organizations and activities, it feels like I can lose focus so easily!
This 6 x 6 planning method helps me to stay focused on keeping the main thing the main thing.
The method is simple and you don’t need any downloads or tools.
Just grab a piece of paper, or a small index card.
The concept of 6 x 6 refers to 6 tasks or goals you would like to accomplish in the next 6 weeks. There is nothing magical about the number 6 - you could choose to do 5 tasks in 5 weeks or 7 tasks in 7 weeks. 6 weeks seems to be a manageable amount of time. There are seasons that I have just chosen to do a single month. The key is to set a time frame and make it realistic for your life.
How I begin:
Looking at your calendar, write down a starting date and count 6 weeks. That is your time frame.
2. Then take a look at your commitments, holidays, travel plans, health goals, etc. List the top 6 things you really want to focus on for the next 6 weeks.
3. Each day, as you plan your day or all of your to-dos, make a little progress on one of these 6 things.
This method has been something that has guided me through business planning, health goals, surgery trips, and big life event planning.
I hope you find this method as helpful as I have!
